Camping Gas Stove
To start cooking turn on your camping stove bring a lit match or butane lighter close to the burner. Rotate the igniter knob until the burner lights up—you should hear clicking as it ignites. Then adjust the knob to reach your desired cooking temperature.
Inhaling high levels of carbon monoxide can be fatal or lead to serious brain damage. To prevent carbon monoxide exposure when using a camping stove always cook in a well-ventilated area—ideally outside. If you must cook in a tent use the stove in the vestibule with the outer door fully open to ensure adequate airflow
To hook up a gas canister to a camping stove start by placing the stove on a flat stable surface away from flammable materials. Check that the stove canister are clean undamaged. For screw-on canisters twist the stove onto the canister clockwise until snug; for clip-on canisters press down until it clicks securely. Open the gas valve slightly listen for leaks (a hissing sound); if there's a leak reconnect or replace the canister. When secure ignite the stove adjust the flame. After cooking turn off the valve to extinguish the flame disconnect the canister if needed.
Use the stove in a well-ventilated area. After cooking remove the gas canister from the stove cap its valve securely store it in a cool flame-free location—even if it’s empty.
To ignite a gas camping stove place it on a stable surface connect the gas canister open the gas valve slightly. Use the built-in igniter or a lighter to ignite the burner then adjust the flame as needed. Turn off the valve when done.
To run a gas stove on propane connect a propane regulator to the stove attach the propane tank securely check for leaks. Once secure open the gas valve ignite as usual.
Propane is often the best gas for camping stoves due to its efficiency in cold temperatures wide availability longer burn time. However isobutane or butane canisters are also popular for lightweight backpacking as they’re compact easy to carry.
To turn on a portable gas stove attach the gas canister open the valve slightly ignite with the built-in igniter or a lighter. Adjust the flame as needed.
